Some Suggestions for Getting Rid of Ants in an Environmentally Friendly Way
1. You can get rid of outdoor ants in an environmentally friendly way by spraying the ants with a solution of 50/50 Windex and Ivory liquid soap.
2. Sprinkle Equal (the artificial sweetener) around on the ground.
3. Mix a mild 50-50 solution of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray on their tracks and onto any visible ants.
4. Ants do not like the taste or smell of cucumber. Place small amounts of cucumber in areas affected by ants, this will drive them away.
5. The above methods will not kill the queen or the colony. If you prefer to eradicate the colony, find the nest and pour boiling water into it. An average of approximately 3 gallons of boiling water will be necessary.
6. GRITS !! Sprinkle grits (dry cereal meal) around the ant trails. I use it in Las Vegas and it works better than anything!!! The ants carry the small grains back to the queen. She can't digest them and dies. The colony is usually gone within a week. It's just hominy, so it's non-toxic and can't hurt your pets or kids.
7. Try sprinkling products on the ant trails. Some of these are: aspartame, black pepper, borax, catnip, cayenne pepper, chili powder, cinnamon, crushed mint, cucumber, a mixture of baking soda and powdered sugar, or citrus peel and water, or white vinegar and water.
8. Apparently, aspartame (NutraSweet) is toxic to ants. Sprinkle around the ant hills.
